Zeta Grl is a opera singer gone pop. She is a New England "diva-pop" artist, known for her electrifying performances. Zeta Grl can control a room with seconds, and keep one for hours. Her performances feature her strong training in both voice and dance, paired with her dream-like production.
With influences such as “Lana Del Rey" and “Maude Latour,” Zeta Grl's music is dark, deep, and unrelenting. Her lyrics have been described as, “uncomfortably honest.” Listeners should expect nothing less than pure prose. As Zeta Grl crafted her sound, she felt it absolutely necessary to share her progress with listeners. Zeta Grl emphasizes the process, not just the product, of creativity. Staying true to her values, she made the authentic decision to release her demos. Syntax, her demo album, dropped spring of 2024. She further gained momentum as an artist through her collaboration with 2x Grammy ballot artist DJ Funsize, as a co-writer and featured artist for their single Shine On. From there, she debuted her single, MOTHERGOOSE, a techno inspired dance-pop song. She has since transitioned into self-producing her music, releasing pop anthems like The Female Gaze and Mind Kart Ride.
Zeta Grl continues to write and record music.
New England, August 22, 2025 -- Emerging artist Zeta Grl announces the release of her new single “Mind Kart Ride,” along with an accompanying music video. The glittery diva-pop anthem explores the trials and tribulations of watching a friend make questionable dating choices. “Mind Kart Ride” is available on all streaming platforms.
Not everyone can say there is a song written about them - but, if you are friends with Zeta Grl, your chances increase tremendously. Originally from Minneapolis, Zeta Grl recently relocated to New England. She is an independent artist in every category: a self-made writer, producer, and performer. Zeta Grl coins her unique identity as a “diva-pop producer,” which brands her confident and charismatic approach to music. In celebration of her new release, we are taking a deeper dive into her "Mind Kart Ride."
When asked about her writing process, Zeta Grl explains, “My friend called me and told me about this guy she had started seeing. He sounded like the worst. I was like… ‘Oh boy… Who’s gonna tell her that she could do better?’ I hung up, and then the song wrote itself.”
The accompanying music video, co-directed by Chris Veninga and Mithi Sivaprakash, matches the track’s playful energy. Fans should pay attention to the little details, as Zeta Grl has scattered them throughout the entire work (from starring her friend - the one who inspired the song - as the lead actress, to naming one of the characters after the actual ex-boyfriend).
Though not her first release, “Mind Kart Ride” was the first demo that Zeta Grl ever recorded. The song has grown alongside the artist. “The lyrics and melody only cost about 20 minutes to write,” she explains. “However, it took almost three years of me developing as an artist and producer before the song was ready to debut.” The song is a full pop symphony. It is hard to believe that Mind Kart Ride was the first song she produced, as it screams the sophistication of a seasoned artist.
Zeta Grl’s frank lyricism is a highlight of her music. “I pride myself in writing lyrics that sound like real conversations,” says Zeta Grl. This statement perfectly describes the storytelling drive behind “Mind Kart Ride.” The song is equal parts witty and candid - a dose of glitter-infused venom.
“Mind Kart Ride” is the second song of a four-track EP. Zeta Grl plans to release the full body of work by the end of 2025. Stream the new single on all platforms, and make sure to watch the music video too.
My advice? Keep your eyes on Zeta Grl.
Syntax isn’t perfect, and that’s what makes it the perfect EP for New England artist Zeta Grl.
Zeta Grl (Rebekah Sheih) wanted her introduction to the world to consist entirely of demos. A demo is essentially a rough draft of a song. Zeta Grl values the process of songwriting over the product, so it was completely natural that her first EP would be unfinished works.
After much anticipation, her first track, Semicolon, released December 2023 with Chicago shortly following. Kid and a Cadillac and Syntax put an end to the teasers and unveiled the project in its entirety.
The tracks features techno sounds, with pops of electric guitar and gorgeous melodic lines. Syntax is a sonic sampler, giving fans a glimpse of what is to come.
All four tracks were recorded on a $99 microphone. For Syntax, Zeta Grl relies on good vocal technique and an authentic performance, as opposed to a polished studio sound. While she is not opposed to a "bigger" production, the purpose of Syntax was to stay as working art. What better way to say "work in progress" than a $99 mic?
In spite of the small production budget, Syntax has captivated audiences. The biggest question Zeta Grl has received is, "When do we get more?"
